It is important that any shoulder problem is diagnosed promptly. Serious biomechanical changes can occur if the joint is not being used correctly because to do so, causes pain. The Causes of Shoulder Pain

Repetitive movements in manual occupations, playing sport and even computer games can be a cause, more and more children and teenagers are suffering shoulder problems due to sitting for long periods, playing computer games on mobile devices and carrying heavy book bags at school or at college.

The shoulder joint normally has a huge range of movement, one of the reasons why shoulder pain can be very debilitating. Problems affecting the joint itself, cartilage and the surrounding muscles, ligaments and tendons can all cause a serious limitation of the range of movement and mobility.

Spinal misalignments, biomechanical problems of the upper back and neck can all contribute to shoulder pain as the nerves that supply the area originate from the cervical spine and upper back. Poor posture, sprains and strains can also be causes or contributory causes.

Chiropractors can assist with a number of conditions that include chronic pain and stiffness, Frozen Shoulder, Impingement Syndrome, Rotator Cuff tears and strains, Arthritis, muscle spasms and tension.

How Can Chiropractic Help?

Initially, a full assessment of the shoulder, neck and upper spine will help your Chiropractor determine the cause of your symptoms and pain. Asking you to move in particular ways will help him to determine the range of mobility and muscle strength in the affected area. Describing the type of pain that you are experiencing, whether anything you do makes it better or worse and for how long you have had the symptoms, will also help in his diagnosis.

Once the initial assessment has determined the cause of the problem, your Chiropractor can then outline a Chiropractic care plan. This will depend on the cause of your symptoms and will focus on getting you out of pain and restoring mobility as quickly as possible. The care you receive may include Chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue work and the use of ice packs and/or heat packs to relieve pain, inflammation and swelling.

In addition, exercises that you can do at home designed to strengthen and stabilize the affected shoulder as part of rehabilitation will help prevent recurrence of the problem in the future.

The care we provide is always appropriate to the condition, holistic, natural and drug-free. Our goal is to restore function to the affected area and eliminate shoulder pain.
